The Secret Life of Bees
My first runner up book was The Secret Life of Bees. I almost chose this book because of its characters. In the book a white girl and her black housekeeper go to live with three black sisters to escape the girl's abusive father during the Civil Rights movement. The five main characters are all girls who are very strong to have survived all this. I liked this, because there are not enough books that really show how independent women are. Since women were not seen as equals until the 1920s, most books that have them as main characters do not portray their strong points. There is also, in this book, a lot of equality for blacks. Since this book was was published during a racist time, it is nice to know that some people were for equal rights. I think that future societies should know that not all of us were selfish pigs. This book really represents that.

Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities
My second runner up book was Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities. I almost chose this book, because I liked the ideas that it represented. This book is about four girls that are part of sororities. It tells about the extreme lengths that people will go to in order to fit in. This book would be great to show people in future societies the mistakes that we made that they should not repeat. The book talks abut girls who would drink, do drugs, and allow themselves to be raped just to be part of a group. People of future societies should know that they have to be their own person if they ever want to be respected. The girls in this book were never respected by people and especially not boys. You have to respect yourself, and that is what I want people of future societies to know.
